Julian Wadham

More recently he was in Dominion : Prequel to the Exorcist – even with a poorer script he was able to rise above the film and give a good account as Major Granville. If you’re going to watch this movie for heavens sake go for Schraders version.

Note should also be made of his performance in Richard E Grants 'Wah Wah' (2005) a massively understated film in which he plays Charles Bingham. Also in 2005 he was 'Lord Carnarvon' in the TV series 'Egypt'. Most recently he has just finished a film called Outpost (2008), here Julian plays a rather mysterious British scientist leading a weary team of mercenaries are on a mission in war-torn Eastern Europe to uncover an abandoned WW2 underground bunker. His character seems to believe there's something of great importance within. They learn that it was used by Germans, who were performing unusual and theoretic experiments on their own soldiers. However its dark secret is soon revealed and the soldiers struggle to survive against something unimaginable.

Unfortunately he devotes his time to theatre and TV and so doesn’t get the roles that he should be securing on the big screen – the caustic title of ‘character actor’ is difficult to shake. In the last few years he has been fairly prolific on British Television – but he is SO watchable this reviewer would love to see more of him in cinemas.
